The history of Meteosim

Our Story, Our Essence

Meteosim was founded in 2003 as the result of a collaboration between a group of researchers from the Department of Astronomy and Meteorology at the Faculty of Physics, University of Barcelona, and the U.S. company Meso Inc. (New York), a global pioneer in applied meteorology. Since then, we’ve come a long way—growing, learning, and establishing ourselves as an international benchmark.

Over more than 20 years, we’ve reached key milestones: we created a renewable energy spin-off that was later acquired by a U.S. group, opened offices outside Spain, and have developed projects in over 80 countries across Europe, the Americas, Africa, and Asia. We’ve devoted thousands of hours to high-performance computing, processing and translating petabytes of data into useful solutions.

But these achievements alone don’t define who we are.

Since our founding in 2003, innovation has been one of Meteosim’s core pillars. We maintain ongoing collaborations with universities and research centers such as the University of Barcelona, the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, the Autonomous University of Barcelona, the University of Granada and the University of Huelva. We also collaborate closely with renowned research institutions such as the International Center for Numerical Methods in Engineering (CIMNE), the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the Air Resources Laboratory of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (ARL-NOAA).
