FAQ
What experience does Meteosim have in the insurance sector in Spain?
Meteosim began its relationship with the insurance sector in Spain in 2011, with the development of the first service specifically designed for the industry. Over the years, Meteosim has increased both its knowledge of and response to the needs of the insurance sector in Spain, developing a variety of meteorological and climatological services that now make up our current service portfolio.
Can these services be offered outside of Spain?
At present, Meteosim has developed these services for Spain and Portugal, but they can be replicated in any country. If you are interested, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Are the meteorological station data used by Meteosim proprietary or from external sources?
The data from meteorological stations comes from official sources within Spanish territory (AEMET, Meteocat, Euskalmet, MeteoGalicia, and the Government of Navarra), which are the only legally valid sources.
What meteorological variables can be consulted on the RMS platform?
The following meteorological variables can be consulted: wind gusts, accumulated precipitation, maximum daily precipitation intensity, temperature, wind, and lightning strikes.
What historical meteorological data is available on the RMS platform?
You can access data from the last two years for all official stations in Spain.
How is meteorological data delivered in the daily data delivery service?
This is an operational service where the data is delivered by postal code, based on a statistical interpolation of official meteorological stations near each postal code. The data is provided in the format required by the client (.csv, .xls, etc.), and communication is conducted via SFTP or API.
Are the forecasts produced by Meteosim its own or from external sources?
The forecasts for Meteosim’s services are produced on Meteosim’s own servers.
How is the data generated for the weather alert service?
The weather forecast service is based on forecasts produced by Meteosim, updated twice daily. The alert forecast is delivered by postal code, with a lead time of 48 or 72 hours, depending on client requirements.
When do you produce expert meteorological reports?
Meteosim prepares technical reports on meteorological phenomena that have caused material damage to insured properties. These reports help determine the weather conditions at a specific location, especially when there are no nearby meteorological stations or when existing stations are not representative.
How is the data for the hail service generated?
The hail service provides retrospective data, indicating where hail has fallen within Spanish territory. The data is generated using the WRF meteorological model, rather than being based on station-recorded data.
